In questo territorio economicamente e culturalmente ancora legato allo sfruttamento animale, il rifugio rappresenta un vero e proprio avamposto della resistenza animale e della cultura antispecista. Attualmente Progetto Cuori Liberi rifugia più di 250 animali provenienti da sequestri, abbandoni e cessioni.
