The SJD Pediatric Center is the first monographic centre for paediatric oncology in Spain (2nd in Europe). 70% of the centre is devoted to care and 30% to research. It has the capacity to care for 400 children and youngsters. Its spaces are designed with the emotional well-being of the children and their families in mind. El 50% de los niños y niñas con una enfermedad rara no tienen un diagnóstico y, para el 94% de estas enfermedades, no existe un tratamiento específico. Las familias tardan una media de 6 años en lograr un diagnóstico y, muchas veces, cuando por fin lo consiguen, es tarde para acceder a una terapia o, tristemente, descubren que no hay ninguna alternativa de tratamiento ni investigación en marcha.
