1st February marked 5 years of working with the municipal pound 'Cereco' in Crevillente. After a cry for help, last month we were able to rescue a further 10 dogs - costing 475€. Total rescues to date = 215.
Some of the money you donate to Finca la Castellana goes towards these rescues, so a huge THANK YOU to you all.
We always need more donations, so if you know anyone who loves animals, please tell them about us and hopefully they will join our group. With extra Teamers we could do so much more and it only costs 1€ per month. Don't forget that we get 100% of all money donated.

We have around 270 animals here at the finca, as you can imagine, the general care of them all isn’t cheap. And then you have weeks like last week!
The vet was called out twice, for a poorly foal, and then a poorly donkey, 340€ (specialist vet to attend Equus Genus). Then the Farrier had to come out and shoe three horses and trim another three, another 435€. By Wednesday we had already taken four dogs and two cats at the vets. Being an animal welfare centre is hard work and we really need your help to keep going and continue doing what we do for the animal world. PLEASE JOIN OUR GROUP TODAY, to help with all these anticipated and unforeseen expenses. Thank you.

When you are walking down your local path, the last thing you expect to find is a box of seven pups! Thankfully the people that found them, picked them up and took them home. We are grateful that they kept them for a week so we could sort out room for them here at the Finca. They are approximately seven weeks old, so will be ready to be homed in two weeks. Welcome to the Hardware Gang (found near Leroy Merlin Construction). Individual photos and names are on the website – www.fincalacastellana.com

In 2021 the Finca took in 351 animals all in need of some tender loving care. Sadly it isn't possible to save every single animal, but looking on the bright side we were able to find loving new homes for nearly 200 animals. Several more are still at the Finca either waiting to be adopted or because they will safely live out the rest of their lives there.
Total adoptions in 2021 = 132 dogs, 50 cats, 6 rabbits, 6 guinea pigs and 2 birds. Thanks to your continued donations we are still able to rescue and re-home so many lucky animals.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

Sadly on Friday morning the Finca was deluged by the horrendous storm that hit the San Miguel area. The huge amount of water caused a wall in the paddock to collapse, completely flooded the cattery, destroyed at least half of the food stored for the animals and left everything covered in 6 inches of mud. The massive clean up operation will take several days but thankfully all the animal are safe and nobody was injured. Please check out the photos and ways you can help on the website.

On a much happier note - 3 weeks ago we were able to rescue 6 dogs and 5 puppies from the dog pound in Crevillente. It's thanks to all your monthly donations that we are able to do this on a regular basis, so a big THANK YOU to you all.

Our Cattery is bursting at the seams, we currently have 60 cats/kittens. They are all looking for homes, but until we can find homes for some of them unfortunately we can’t take anymore. It’s such a sad situation here at the moment.

If you can do one good thing for a cat, that would be to get it sterilised, so no more babies can be made and hopefully, by that one little step, it will stop a single cat having kittens repeatedly over the year.

Please, please help us to help the cats. If you are looking to rehome a cat or kitten please get in touch. Many thanks

This gorgeous cutie is Amber - just one of the many cats needing homes.

Just a quick update to tell you we were able to rescue 4 dogs from the dog pound in April and they are currently being checked and given any necessary treatment before being put up for adoption.
It's really easy to adopt a dog from us, so if you are interested please visit our website www.fincalacastellana.org - here you will find details of how to adopt, can view any dogs which are available and you can also arrange an appointment to meet them.

Almo’s Story

In March one of our volunteers received a message on Facebook from someone who was concerned about a dog that seemed to have taken refuge in a squatter’s garden. For the following 3 days the property was staked out but this only caused our volunteer’s anxiety to grow. After speaking to Janette who was aware of all of this, it was decided to try and rescue him.

The only way to get to him was to jump the wall. His confidence was gained through voice and sausage and having managed to loop the lead over his head it was realized that this poor dog was probably blind. However, our volunteer was able to tuck him under her arm, leg it to the car and then back to the safety of the Finca where he was fed and given a warm bed.

The following day saw him visiting Tidy Paws Grooming Parlour so Anna could work her magic on him, and as expected, he walked out looking a million dollars. Then on to see the vet at Eduardo Pets for X-rays and blood tests. Very happy to report that he tested negative for all the Mediterranean diseases and has a healthy heart. He was covered in tics, had terrible ear mites and is confirmed blind, but nothing life threatening. Thank you to Bruno at Eduardo Pets for Almo’s ITV. Two weeks later he went back to check on his progress and plan his castration and hip X-ray. Bruno thinks he is around 12 years old. After all this excitement it was back to the Finca for three slap up meals, a warm coat, a cosy bed under the heat lamp, and lots of love from the volunteers.

So pleased to be able to tell you that this gorgeous boy has now been found a new home and can enjoy the rest of his life in a loving, caring environment.

Once again your donations have been put to good use giving a beautiful dog a better life. THANK YOU all for your much needed support.

In the last few weeks I have been contacted by a few of our teamers asking how they can donate more than 1€ each month.

With all the bars and restaurants being closed, the last couple of months have been extremely difficult for fundraising. We are always happy to hear about new ways of raising funds, so if you have any bright ideas please get in touch.

Anyone wishing to make an extra donation can do so on our website - www.fincalacastellana.org

Alternatively why not visit one of our charity shops where you can hand in your unwanted items and browse all the items we have for sale. We have 2 shops in the area - 1 can be found in SAN MIGUEL on the main street, near the traffic lights just past Bankia. The other one is on the ground floor of the Filton Centre LOS BALCONES. Hope to see you soon and many thanks for your continued support.

A few weeks ago this poor greyhound was brought to the Finca by a couple who found him in the campo. He had no microchip so we couldn’t trace his owner. This photo was taken the day he arrived and he was in such a dreadful condition we really didn’t think he would make it.

Just look at him now that the injuries are starting to heal - what a difference.

After a few trips to the vets and with a warm bed, good food and lots of tender loving care, he’s looking so much better and now has every chance of a good future.
It’s because of caring people like you who donate to our cause each month that we are able to help animals in distress. So THANK YOU and as you can see your donations do make a difference.
