Just a quick update to tell you we were able to rescue 4 dogs from the dog pound in April and they are currently being checked and given any necessary treatment before being put up for adoption.
It's really easy to adopt a dog from us, so if you are interested please visit our website www.fincalacastellana.org - here you will find details of how to adopt, can view any dogs which are available and you can also arrange an appointment to meet them.

Almo’s Story

In March one of our volunteers received a message on Facebook from someone who was concerned about a dog that seemed to have taken refuge in a squatter’s garden. For the following 3 days the property was staked out but this only caused our volunteer’s anxiety to grow. After speaking to Janette who was aware of all of this, it was decided to try and rescue him.

The only way to get to him was to jump the wall. His confidence was gained through voice and sausage and having managed to loop the lead over his head it was realized that this poor dog was probably blind. However, our volunteer was able to tuck him under her arm, leg it to the car and then back to the safety of the Finca where he was fed and given a warm bed.

The following day saw him visiting Tidy Paws Grooming Parlour so Anna could work her magic on him, and as expected, he walked out looking a million dollars. Then on to see the vet at Eduardo Pets for X-rays and blood tests. Very happy to report that he tested negative for all the Mediterranean diseases and has a healthy heart. He was covered in tics, had terrible ear mites and is confirmed blind, but nothing life threatening. Thank you to Bruno at Eduardo Pets for Almo’s ITV. Two weeks later he went back to check on his progress and plan his castration and hip X-ray. Bruno thinks he is around 12 years old. After all this excitement it was back to the Finca for three slap up meals, a warm coat, a cosy bed under the heat lamp, and lots of love from the volunteers.

So pleased to be able to tell you that this gorgeous boy has now been found a new home and can enjoy the rest of his life in a loving, caring environment.

Once again your donations have been put to good use giving a beautiful dog a better life. THANK YOU all for your much needed support.

In the last few weeks I have been contacted by a few of our teamers asking how they can donate more than 1€ each month.

With all the bars and restaurants being closed, the last couple of months have been extremely difficult for fundraising. We are always happy to hear about new ways of raising funds, so if you have any bright ideas please get in touch.

Anyone wishing to make an extra donation can do so on our website - www.fincalacastellana.org

Alternatively why not visit one of our charity shops where you can hand in your unwanted items and browse all the items we have for sale. We have 2 shops in the area - 1 can be found in SAN MIGUEL on the main street, near the traffic lights just past Bankia. The other one is on the ground floor of the Filton Centre LOS BALCONES. Hope to see you soon and many thanks for your continued support.

A few weeks ago this poor greyhound was brought to the Finca by a couple who found him in the campo. He had no microchip so we couldn’t trace his owner. This photo was taken the day he arrived and he was in such a dreadful condition we really didn’t think he would make it.

Just look at him now that the injuries are starting to heal - what a difference.

After a few trips to the vets and with a warm bed, good food and lots of tender loving care, he’s looking so much better and now has every chance of a good future.
It’s because of caring people like you who donate to our cause each month that we are able to help animals in distress. So THANK YOU and as you can see your donations do make a difference.

Wow, what a month September was. After a cry for help from the dog pound, we were able to rescue another 17 dogs from Cereco - 6 of these have already been adopted.
We were also called out to rescue 11 Rottweiler cross puppies (only 3 days old) which had been tied up in a plastic bag and dumped in a field. On the same day a mother cat and 7 kittens also came into the safety of the Finca. Well done to all involved.
