Veterinary Care & Neutering Updates – January

Meow dear Catlovers
The past weeks have once again shown us how important your support is. Thanks to you, we were able to help several cats in urgent need and continue our neutering work on Fuerteventura.
One female cat was treated for a serious corneal ulcer. The veterinarian reopened the ulcer and injected an antibiotic directly under the conjunctiva so it could act exactly where it was needed. To protect the eye, it was temporarily covered using a flap of the third eyelid. We truly hope this treatment will help save her eye.
Another hotel cat came to us with multiple injuries. A small abscess had begun to form on his hind leg, there were minor wounds on the paw pads, and a superficial wound on the front leg, most likely from a fight. The good news: there were no fractures. Treatment has already started, and he is staying at the clinic for a few days with anti-inflammatory medication. If all goes well, he will be able to return to the hotel very soon.
We also had a scare with Ramiro, one of our hotel cats. What initially looked like a serious issue turned out to be a false alarm. After a vet visit, it was diagnosed as something similar to a hemorrhoid and not a problem at the moment. Ramiro is doing just fine, and we’ll continue to keep an eye on him.
Despite rainy weather, our TNR work continues. This week alone, 8 stray cats were successfully trapped, neutered, treated against parasites, and microchipped. So far, we have already rescued and trapped over 80 street cats. Each neutering is a crucial step towards sustainable animal welfare and a better future for stray cats on Fuerteventura.
Thank you for standing by our side and making all of this possible. Your ongoing support truly changes lives – one cat at a time.
