CADASIL is a rare hereditary disease that affects arteries throughout the body, but its symptoms only occur in the brain, with recurrent strokes and dementia at an early age (around 45-50 years old) being characteristic. There is NO cure, but a research team at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (Barcelona) is going to start a clinical trial to see if treatments already on the market can help to stop this incapacitating disease. Vascular compression syndromes are a group of rare diseases that affect the blood vessels and the functioning of some organs. They cause diverse symptoms, disabling pain and many daily limitations. There is hardly any research on them, which causes late diagnoses, lack of medical consensus and great expenses for families.
