The sun is shining in Romania. Today Tecuci recorded 26 degrees, and the forecast are for 33 degrees at the weekend. The same is expected in Calarasi and Bucharest on Sunday. You know what this means: summer has arrived in Romania, but unfortunately so have ticks, flea worms and all sorts of nasty parasites that attack the dogs.

As you can imagine, the shelters are built in the outskirts of towns, so that the noise does not cause complaints from neighbours. Those areas are very green and full of shrubs and plants that unfortunately attract all sorts of insects which can infest the dogs and transmit horrible diseases. We have in the past rescued dogs that were infested with ticks, some of their pictures are attached so that you can see what these poor dogs are risking without any protection.

We have recently posted a lot about the charity’s financial situation, and our efforts to reduce costs and use the limited funds we have available, thanks to your generosity, to achieve the best possible conditions for the dogs. With the same spirit, we have done a lot of research and have managed to find a supplier that will provide us with enough Simparica (tasty chewable tablets used to treat tick, flea and sarcoptic mange infestations in dogs) to treat all of our 800 dogs for up to 6 months at the total cost of RON 49,098.40 including VAT. Knowing we are a charity and care for so many dogs, the suppliers have been very generous and giving us a 33% discount overall.

The total in GBP is 8,456.63 so we need your help to be able to afford this. It basically means that £10.57 could provide preventative treatment to one dog for 6 months, so we are begging you to please donate anything you can. The cost of treating dogs for any conditions they may contract through these parasites would be far higher than that of these pills, so as the angels you all are you will protect the dogs and allow us to avoid any big vet bills for totally preventable conditions.
