Hi I'm Matthew, I was born giving a scare to my moms on Halloween 2021. I have an ultra-rare disease (BCAP31 gene mutation), 2 cases in Spain and few cases in the world. I have severe bilateral hearing loss, low vision, dystonic spastic tetraparesis, central hypomyelination, epilepsy crisis... En España, 3 millones de personas tienen una de las más de 7.000 enfermedades raras que existen. El 50% de los niños y niñas con una enfermedad rara no tienen un diagnóstico y, para el 94% de estas enfermedades, no existe un tratamiento específico. Las familias tardan una media de 6 años en lograr un diagnóstico y, muchas veces, cuando por fin lo consiguen, es tarde para acceder a una terapia o, tristemente, descubren que no hay ninguna alternativa de tratamiento ni investigación en marcha.

The Aladina Foundation is building the largest pediatric gym ever created inside a Spanish hospital, at Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia. This space will let us fully implement our Physical Exercise Program. Research shows that supervised physical activity improves quality of life and reduces side effects during cancer treatment. The gym will serve all pediatric patients and offer programs for parents and healthcare professionals.
