ATO is the first rehabilitation center for primates in Benin, with over 90 residents (2025). The center, in collaboration with the forestry authorities, rescues primates held illegally to rehabilitate them for life in the wild and eventually release them into their natural habitat. Three species have already disappeared from the country! Deforestation, poaching for bushmeat, and the sale of babies as pets are the main causes of primate decline in Benin.
