The initial aim of the project was building a shelter for dogs, promoting neutering/spaying and rabies vaccination of the shelter dogs; this should bring about a conceptual change among the Gambian population. Like elsewhere in Africa, most Gambians only see dogs as rabid animals causing disease, not without a reason, for rabies is an endemic illness in many of these countries.
