A summer of peace for Sahrawi children

Every summer for more than twenty years, Sahrawi children from the refugee camps in Tindouf (Algeria) have travelled to the province of Jaén to enjoy a true “Holiday in Peace”. For two months, they leave the desert behind to find rest, medical care, a balanced diet and, above all, the affection of the families who welcome them as one of their own.

Holidays in Peace Programme

Funding for travel, administrative procedures and activities for Sahrawi children hosted by families in the province of Jaén.

Every summer, thanks to this programme promoted by the Association of Friends of the Free Sahara of the Province of Jaén, children are able to leave the refugee camps of Tindouf, where they live in extreme conditions of heat, scarcity and isolation, to enjoy a few months of rest, health and affection. During their stay, they receive medical check-ups, a balanced diet and take part in activities that allow them to experience a summer far from the 50 °C desert heat and the harsh conditions of the camps. As the group grows, we will be able to guarantee the participation of more children and ensure the continuity of the programme each summer.
