This is a sanctuary to help abused & abandoned horses and other species. Live 64 equines and other animals in the sanctuary. The approximate cost per horse per month is 120 euros if they are in good health; if there are not, the amount can go up to a few hundreds of euros and even thousands. 14 años llevo al frente de Santuario Winston, desde que se fundó en 2012. En estos años he trabajado duro, muy duro para que nuestros acogidos tengan la vida digna que merecen. Nunca he recibido un euro por mi trabajo, yo no vivo de esto, vivo para ellos y los que me conocéis lo sabéis de sobra.
Muchas veces mis colaboradores me han sugerido hacer un crowdfunding para conseguir cosas necesarias, pero siempre me he negado, se han hecho recaudaciones de fondos, únicamente cuando realmente ha hecho falta, unas veces se ha conseguido, otras no, pero nunca me he puesto pesada a pedir, porque eso no va conmigo.
Pero esta vez es diferente, me hago mayor, soy consciente, como soy consciente de mis limitaciones (recién operada de dos hernias lumbares por hacer la bruta trabajando siempre al límite y artritis psoriásica, lo que me tiene deformados los dedos de las manos causando mucho dolor, aunque ni todo eso me impide trabajar por mis niños cada día, no lo voy a permitir) y lo principal son ellos, pero también se que como está ahora mismo gestionándose el Santuario, va a ser inviable en breve y os digo porque:
Las fincas son alquiladas y hay 3 que en dos años se termina el contrato y no tengo claro que lo vuelvan a arrendar (el dueño es muy mayor, además de problemático, siempre me está presionando a lo bestia para aumentar el precio) en estas fincas viven 22 caballos a día de hoy.
La otra donde viven 24 de los caballos, además de ser muy mala tierra para pasto, es muy cara y el problema es casi el mismo que las anteriores, pero esta tiene además el hándicap de no poderse cerrar con llave, ya que tiene paso a otras fincas y cualquiera puede entrar, eso no nos da ninguna paz, porque no están lo seguros que deberían.
Llevo ya muchos años buscando una finca donde todos puedan vivir juntos, mi intención era alquilar, pero después de mas de 8 años, no he encontrado lo que necesitan, una finca que les dé estabilidad. Comprar era inviable por falta de recursos, porque fincas adecuadas las hay, asi que vamos a dar ese gran paso, vamos a conseguir los recursos para comprar esa finca, donde los habitantes nunca tengan que temer un desahucio, una finca que estará a su nombre por siempre. Tengo un dicho TODA PIEDRA HACE PARED….. vamos a construir esa pared a base de piedras, unas serán grandes que levantarán pronto ese hogar, otras pequeñas que ayudarán a sostener a las grandes TODAS IGUAL DE IMPORTANTES!!

Dearest community,
I have been leading Santuario Winston for 14 years, since it was founded in 2012.

During all these years, I have worked hard—very hard—so that those in our care can have the dignified life they deserve. I have never received a single euro for my work; I don’t live off this, I live for them—and those of you who know me are well aware of that.

Many times, my collaborators have suggested launching a crowdfunding campaign to obtain the necessary resources, but I have always refused.

Fundraisers have only been organized when truly needed—sometimes we succeeded, sometimes we didn’t—but I have never insisted or pushed for donations, because that’s just not who I am.

But this time is different. I am getting older, and I am aware of it, just as I am aware of my limitations (I have recently undergone surgery for two lumbar hernias after pushing myself too hard working at the limit, and I also suffer from psoriatic arthritis, which has deformed my fingers and causes me a great deal of pain. Even so, none of this stops me from working for my animals every single day—and I won’t allow it to). They are the only priority. However, I also know that the way the sanctuary is currently being managed will soon become unfeasible, and I will explain why:

The land we use is rented. There are three properties where the contracts will expire in two years, and I am not sure they will be renewed (the owner is of old age and quite difficult; he constantly pressures me aggressively to raise the rent). Currently, 22 horses live on these properties.

On another property, where 24 of the horses live, the land is very poor for grazing and very expensive. It also has a similar issue to the others, but with an added drawback: it cannot be secured with a lock, as it provides access to other properties, meaning anyone can enter. This gives us no peace of mind, as the horses are not as safe as they should be.

For many years now, I have been searching for a property where they can all live together. My intention was to rent, but after more than eight years, I have not found a place that meets their needs—a place that offers stability.

Buying was unfeasible due to lack of resources, even though suitable properties do exist.

So now we are going to take this big step: we are going to secure the resources to purchase that land—a place where the residents will never have to fear eviction, a place that will be theirs forever.

I always say: “Every stone builds the wall.” Let’s build that wall together—some stones will be large and will help raise that home quickly, others will be small but will help support the larger ones. All are equally important!
