We set up this group initially to support the people affected by the earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey earlier this year, hand in hand with UNHCR. After the initial emergency, UNHCR's action is now focused on its natural focus: Syrian refugees, people who have left their homes for this reason or others. Many thanks to all of you who joined and for your quick response. We will send the last funds to them this month and then we will close this Group.
Syria had already been living in an extreme situation for twelve years and these earthquakes have further aggravated the situation that the Syrian population was already experiencing. In addition to the thousands of dead, wounded and missing, there is also material damage in a country that was already devastated. It is a drama within the drama already being experienced by Syrian families, with more than 5.3 million people affected by the earthquake. Months after the devastating earthquakes, UNHCR continues to provide protection including psychosocial support, child protection, assistance to survivors of gender-based violence, legal support, etc. to affected communities in Aleppo, Hama, Homs and the coastal area. In addition, they are distributing kits of basic emergency items (thermal blankets, mattresses, plastic sheeting and sleeping mats), family and collective tents and cold weather clothing.

The "end" fo the emergency and this change, force us to close the Group. We will make the last donations to UNCHR this month.

Last year, Syrians accounted for almost 1 in 5 refugees globally, with 6.5 million hosted in 131 countries; 3.5 million in earthquake-hit Turkey. Months after the devastating earthquakes, UNHCR continues to provide protection including psychosocial support, child protection, assistance to survivors of gender-based violence, legal support, etc. to affected communities in Aleppo, Hama, Homs and the coastal area. In addition, they are distributing kits of basic emergency items (thermal blankets, mattresses, plastic sheeting and mats), family and collective tents and shelter clothing. This last collection will be used for these basic products.
