Given the scale of the impact and the aftershocks, we are providing healthcare services, psychological first aid, protection, help in reuniting families, search and rescue, and road safety. Red Cross for Colombia

An earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale struck western Colombia on the morning of 10 August, with its epicentre in the department of Chocó. The quake was also felt in Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama. So far, more than 18 aftershocks have been recorded. Initial assessments point to a major emergency: more than 100 people have died and nearly 200 have been injured. Sixty-two municipalities have been affected, 1,684 homes have been damaged and more than 60 buildings have collapsed, including hospitals. Twenty health centres, 24 schools, 17 community centres, four roads and two bridges have also been affected. In response to this situation, the Colombian Red Cross has mobilised its search and rescue teams. A 30-strong USAR team has been deployed to Chocó, whilst teams from Antioquia, Quindío and Caldas remain on standby. The Organisation is also participating in the coordination mechanisms established by the authorities.
