We are a group of people affected by multiple sclerosis, a neurodegenerative disease experienced by some 50,000 people in Spain. Two-thirds of the 1,800 people who each year learn they have MS are under the age of 40; three out of four of them are women. GAEM promotes research into treatments for this disease, and seeks to improve the quality of life of affected people and their families. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease of unknown origin, without a cure and with a life expectancy of 2 to 5 years. Affected people are aware of the progressive loss of motor functions and the increasing degree of dependency. The Catalan Foundation for ALS Miquel Valls is the only non-profit organization in Catalonia that works to improve the quality of life of people and families affected by ALS through psychosocial support projects at home and in hospitals.

Carlos ist Partner bei NTT DATA und wurde im Alter von 32 Jahren mit ALS diagnostiziert. Seitdem hat er nie aufgehört, gegen die Krankheit zu kämpfen, und ist heute ein großartiges Beispiel für Überwindung: Er hat in seinem Rollstuhl mehr als 1.000 km in 17 Marathons zurückgelegt.
